Swine Flu

Swine Flu. I thought this was over until recently, I was up in Coventry and found out that they are all getting it up there. London had it and then passed it on up north (that's got to be the wrong way round).

I think people's reaction to swine flu was over the top. The influenza virus has many different strands and some just appear as colds, but usually there are many cases around winter time. They say it's to do with the lack of sun and the vitamins we get from them. It's usually people who have weak immune systems who die from it, like old people or people already ill. Usually they contract pneumonia. About 12,000 died last winter.

Swine flu has killed 4,000 to date.

So how is swine flu so bad? Especially since it's gone over more time than a winter. It is more contagious than other influenza strains, but that’s because we have no natural immunity to the virus, but a week or 2 in bed and feeling rubbish is nothing compared to dying. So why is this swine flu so bad? I bet Kleenex tissues are loving every new reported case of Swine flu. They’re not doing any worse. They’re financial year ends 31-Dec, but in 2008 they were down by £132,900. But with their lowest share price at 43.41p in March 2008 (just before swine flu), the price has gone up to now, about 60p (source:Yahoo! Finance).

So this panic over a virus which isn’t as bad as it seems is really all about money. The sale of papers with “developments” of a vaccine and current stats and Kimberly-Clark selling tissues and soap. The loss of millions from tax-payers who have to pay for theirs and other’s meds.

So if everyone could forget about Swine flu for a bit, or just stop panicing about it so much then the government could bring it down from a pandemic and we could start managing this in a reasonable and sensible manor.

And by the way, I never got it.
